What is the present without the past!

Running Tours Barcelona shows you quiet a lot on our tours through Barcelona. Old churches from 13th and 14th century like the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia or the Cathedral Santa Maria del mar, buildings of the modernism period of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century in new constructed districts like the "Eixample". All these historical buildings combined with the contemporary architecture is the mix that makes this city unique in the world.

But, we tell you about a lot of changes happens to this city! Only 150 years ago, the city council decided to torn down the ancient city walls around Barcelona. What was before at the square of Plaza Catalunya before it was built like we know it today? And how about the Harbour and the hill of Montjuic? Was the hill really only agricultural land and an ugly port without a beach?

We can't show you that on our tours, but we can show you here with some old photo's how it was before. We try to work continously on this photo collection. And we are sure that you will remind and recognize a lot of places when you will run with us. Enjoy Barcelona of the past!

Gallery of Joan Martí i Centellas  [1832 - 1902]

A very important catalan photographer. He took a lot of photo's of Barcelona before and during the time of construction of the Eixample district and the surounding of Barcelona.

Gallery of the hill Montjuic between 1915 - 1923

When we tell you on our "Tour 2 - The Hill of Montjuic" with all his attractions like the Palau Nacional, the Olympic district and marvellous views over Barcelona, that this hill was former "only" an agricultural land and quarry. It is really hard to believe. We want to show you some photos from the time when on Montjuic the first constructions were started for the World's fair in 1929.
